Our roots in community beekeeping
Founded in the 1970s by a group of dedicated apiarists, including founding leader Thomas Yancey, our association has long served as a vital home for honey bee lovers. While membership fluctuated over the decades and the disruption of 2020 almost brought an end to our gatherings, our mission never faded. In 2025, passionate newcomers and dedicated former members united to revive and reshape the association with structured modern training and vigorous community outreach.
Hands-on learning and shared fellowship
Joining MCVA Beekeepers Association connects you to practical, structured education designed to build your beekeeping confidence and protect colony health. Beyond hive management, members enjoy rich fellowship with neighbor beekeepers who share insights, equipment tips, and seasonal guidance. We learn together, solve hive challenges together, and celebrate every harvest as a team.
Protecting pollinators and our local ecosystem
Our commitment extends beyond backyard apiaries into the wider community. We actively teach the public about the irreplaceable role of honey bees and wild pollinators in supporting our local food systems and natural flora. Through educational workshops, community outreach, and swarm rescue, we empower every resident to take positive action for a healthier environment.
